A Mama's Fears

-- Author's Notes

June 14, 2004

As I write this, I am aware that my one-shot InuYasha fic A Mama's

Fears is completely finished. There is no more to the story to write.

However, to allow my reader an insight into the 'story behind

the story' (so to speak) I will take a few minutes to explore what

prompted me to write A Mama's Fears.

The fanfiction was inspired, of course, by the Canon-shaking episodes

127 and 128 of InuYasha. I saw them (fansubbed) and was struck by

the story within the story depicted on the screen.

Namely: The story of Kagome's mother during the Adventure

Now, this is an interesting aspect of the adventure in two ways to

me: both as a mother, and as a fanfiction writer.

Here you have Kagome's mom -- a woman who lets her daughter

go tramping off to a place that she cannot be reached, even during

an emergency. The methods of Kagome's travels are mysterious, the

characters she meets (*ahem* InuYasha) certainly something different

from Kagome's 'usual' friends.

Yet, as always, we see a smiling, calm Mama. (Doesn't this woman have

a name??)

Even when Kagome's head is about to be chomped by a Death Cup

Mushroom. Even when Kagome's co-lead in the play is threatened

by a sword-weilding InuYasha. Even when she's confronted with the

relationship that is (clearly!) building between her daughter and the

hanyou dog demon with the cute and fuzzy ears.

What, I wondered, was going on in this woman's head!?

Thus, we have... A Mama's Fears.

And I tried to keep it pretty close to the actual episode, too (dialogue

and all) for those who wondered.
